Soothing Shadows

“There are some things your mind has been hiding from you.”
― Obert Skye,
Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo

I captured this photo at the same time I got the one used in my post on August 18th. The onset of the rising sun is more pronounced here, as are the hues and tones I exploited in post production. I hope you enjoy these soothing shadows.

Celebration: Lines, Shapes and Shadows

“The present changes the past. Looking back you do not find what you left behind.”
― Kiran Desai,
The Inheritance of Loss

Presenting two more photos from my photo-walk in Celebration Town Center, both taken at the AMC Celebration 2 theatre building — closed since 2010. The sun was out and quite bright, but the storm coming in created the perfect opportunity to capture some interesting shadows and dramatic clouds. My next post will feature the final image from that day. Like the photo of the theatre’s twin spires here, it also has great clouds. So please come back! I hope you enjoy the photos.

Evolving Doors

“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.”
—Helen Keller

Most of my readers are probably already familiar with the famous words of Helen Keller quoted above. It is my assertion that her statement is but a half-truth, omitting even a mention of the doors of sadness that line the corridors of our lives and behave in like manner. If it were not for sadness, I could not know happiness; if it were not for happiness, I could not know I was sad.

Towering Shadows

Tar

I created this image a while back and just put it aside. It’s one that, despite its intended “ugliness”, I really like. The shadows were added or grossly enhanced in post-production. When I saw this image in my mind, its name came along with the vision. It is a reflection of the darkness — the “tar” — we sometimes find ourselves stuck in.

Your efforts to let people know this blog exists through shares on your social media networks are hugely important and very much appreciated. There are button links to make it simple at the bottom of each post.

Beautiful Inflation

Continuing the hot air balloon theme from the prior post, this photo is another one captured very early on the morning of June 1st at the Kissimmee Blue Skies and Silver Spurs Rodeo Festival. The balloons were being inflated as the rising sun cast warm, golden rays against the overcast grey sky. The two onlookers, standing in the shadow of the balloon, became simple silhouettes.

Lines Through The City

I was fully intending to capture some interesting shadows for today’s shoot, and so headed downtown mid-morning to wander about and experience my surroundings. I had only walked about a block from where I’d parked the car when I found myself pre-visualizing a shot that had no shadows in it at all, but rather a lot of lines and reflections. It was only a few minutes after capturing that shot, when I realized I was mid-composition on another shot that seemed to focus much more on lines than it did on shadows.

An hour later, while consuming one of the best baked tofu sandwiches ever concocted at Carlucci’s Deli, it dawned on me: I had completely abandoned all thought of shadows! My camera was only tuned in to the lines that shape and define my city.
