Crane Textures

“You’d be surprised how little I knew even up to yesterday.”
― Jack Kerouac

I thought I’d be sharing photos from yesterday’s 4th of July festivities in Kissimmee, but today had everything in store for me BUT editing photos. So in the meantime, I’ll share this recent photo of a Florida Sandhill crane. I really like the variety of textures spanning its head and neck. Hopefully you will like it, too.

I am looking for a few couples in the Kissimmee/Orlando area that would be interested in working with me on some concept couples photo shots. Please contact me if interested. Compensation will be your final-edit digital image files and full reproduction rights.

Beauty Has a Forked Tongue

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
–Robert Brault

This is another one of James’ Phalaenopsis orchids that’s blooming right now. This one was a gift from canine celebrity Hairy Putter‘s dads, on the occasion of their move from Utah to California. They had to leave it behind due to California’s prohibition against bringing plants across the state line. I hope you like the photo.

This is my first attempt at using HDR, an effect I really like the look of on the right photo. Essentially, it’s done by merging three shots bracketed 1 f-stop apart. Now that I am using Adobe Lightroom (4), I thought I would give it a try. Suggestions?

Poppies … Poppies …

Along with the tulips (which I love) come the poppies. They don’t last very long, but their large blooms and vibrant colors are terrific subjects for flower photography. They can sometimes be a challenge to capture, however. Because the flowers are so large, light and delicate, the slightest wind will send them swaying – and we’ve had quite a few windy days here in Salt Lake City as of late.

That we find a crystal or a poppy beautiful means
that we are less alone,
that we are more deeply inserted into existence
than the course of a single life would
lead us to believe.
