Innocent Eyes

"Children make you want to start life over."
— Muhammad Ali

I marvel at the way an infant can observe the world around them as new and wonderful and even the most simple pleasure as play. I would gain much from the opportunity to have an infant guide me in relearning this skill, though I would never wish to be a parent to anything more complicated than a cat.

A Pink Spot Between Two Moons

“As anyone who has ever been around a cat for any length of time well knows, cats have enormous patience with the limitations of the human kind.”
– Cleveland Amory

The title is a reference to Cooper’s little pink nose and those big, moon-like eyes. Probably not what you were expecting…

Handle with Hope

“This is the sad thing about love: we love hard and we grieve hard.”
– Unknown

On Facebook today, a friend posted this truth on my wall: “Having to see someone you love so much in such pain is grief.” Unfortunately, they couldn’t be more correct. Yet, when doctors tell you there is no hope, have hope. Hope provides balance in the face of despair. Without hope, there would be no miracles.

I apologize that new posts have been infrequent these last few weeks. New photos and new work have had to take a back seat to caring for James as he struggles to survive. Thank you for your continued support as we cope with the horror and heartbreak of cancer.

Moonlight

“Moonlight does things to a street scene that no other natural or man-made phenomenon can effect. People walk slower, their smiles lingering on contended faces. Horses that usually move along fast enough to stir up the dust off the street plod lazily in the clear, cool night. And in dark corners where people forget to look, the goons come out.”
― Bailey Bristol, The Devil’s Dime

While the quote above refers to actual moonlight, I’ve long enjoyed the quirkiness of the street scene created by the service counter entrance to Moonlight Starter and Generator. In business for nearly 40 years, it’s a quiet place where things do seem to move slower. You may notice in the photo how things are “in dark corners where people forget to look”, though perhaps not so much forgotten as ignored.

Your Shopping Cart is Empty

I’d like to get four people who do cart wheels very good, and make a cart.
— Mitch Hedberg

I went with a square crop on this photo to give it more of a visual, Internet icon-like feeling. Then I found the Mitch Hedberg quote and it was perfect in another respect: I’m the guy that ALWAYS get the most rotten cart any shop has in its fleet. The other day, after a trip up and down one aisle at the grocery store, I went back and exchanged a wholly defective, loudly complaining cart for the last one remaining in the stall. It was worse, and after a push of about 10 feet, I quickly changed my mind. Of course, the cart I’d just given up was simultaneously squeaked away by another shopper.

Out of the Alley

Despite response to my prior post having been absurdly underwhelming, I am going to forge ahead — if but for my own amusement. Today’s image is not my typical style; it has been heavily processed, obscured and texturized. It’s another that’s been sitting in the queue, caught during one of my many walks downtown shooting the “Faces of Kissimmee” project. What do you think?

If you like the image, please share this post and let others know I’m here. ❤

Warning Among the Weeds

I came upon this while on a walk one hot, humid afternoon. Simple. Insignificant. Aged by neglect. A warning message is lost among the weeds.
