Dalton Dogwood

Dogwood trees are really beautiful, but for me, that beauty comes with a heavy price: severe allergies. I was traveling in the area of Dalton, Georgia a couple weeks ago, when some really beautiful light caught my eye. I also caught a really nasty attack of sinusitis and upper respiratory issues. Yes, we sometimes suffer for our art… and hope that every so often it’s actually worth it.

Turning Tables: Columbia

“There is strong shadow where there is much light.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe,
Götz von Berlichingen

The Columbia Restaurant is one of the premier and most popular dining destinations in Celebration. However, last Sunday afternoon, the World Cup match had people’s minds focused on things other than award-winning authentic Spanish/Cuban food. This shot is my favorite takeaway from my afternoon photo-walk around Celebration Town Center. I hope you like it, too.

Michelle

“Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.”
— Charlotte Whitton

I chose today’s photo from my library in acknowledgement of reconnecting with a former Utah coworker and friend, who also happens to be a fellow photo enthusiast. I can’t say exactly why — and I hope she’s not offended by this — I feel like this photo and its colors somehow suit her. The quote certainly fits, as I often found her smiling face to be the sun that blotted out the shadow that was behind her.

I hope you enjoy the photo.

It is not the going out of port, but the coming in, that determines the success of a voyage.

Free Desktop, iPad & iPhone Wallpaper: “A Dance of Light”

Today’s image is a simple abstract created by combining a fairly slow shutter speed with a night shot of a high-speed amusement ride. I took it using a Nikon D800 at ISO 320, f/14 at .8 sec., using a fixed-length 85mm lens.

I am giving away today’s image as a free desktop and iPad/iPhone wallpaper: just reverse click on the appropriately sized image for your device and save it to the mobile device or a hard drive.
