The Amplified Age

“The way I wrestle five-year-olds makes me think if I were ever attacked by a pack of midgets, I’d be OK.” ― Jarod Kintz, $3.33

Photographing children is one of my favorite — though often most challenging — assignments. Sometimes my objective is to photograph a child that refuses to acknowledge I’m even present. Other times, I encounter a child with an instant and natural rapport with the camera. I especially like taking photographs of children that leave them looking like children rather than artificially making them look more grown up than they are. For this portrait, I decided to use filters and textures to soften it up and to get a different, somewhat stylized look. I hope his mother likes it, for you know what they say: “If Mom’s happy, everybody’s happy.”

Innocent Eyes

"Children make you want to start life over."
— Muhammad Ali

I marvel at the way an infant can observe the world around them as new and wonderful and even the most simple pleasure as play. I would gain much from the opportunity to have an infant guide me in relearning this skill, though I would never wish to be a parent to anything more complicated than a cat.
