Stargazer

Send Me an Angel

“The golden moments in the stream of life rush past us, and we see nothing but sand;
the angels come to visit us, and we only know them when they are gone.”
— George Eliot

Recognize the angels in your life. You never know how quickly they might fly away.

You’ve Changed

Perhaps at some point in the past, this graveside figure was cute. I think that time has come and gone… Time and nature are transforming this concrete cherub into a figure that’s looking anything but angelic. It reminds me of Chucky, that creepy possessed doll from the late 80’s horror film, Child’s Play. It also made me think of my friend Jill; she has a neighbor whose yard is littered with distastefulness. I guess whoever rests under this awkward angel doesn’t have to worry about his neighbors complaining. They are probably scared they’ll awaken Chucky.

Why?

Ours is not to reason why
the time’s so short.
We live, we die.

It’s pretty clear that this angel has held its post as a faithful graveside companion for many years. It’s undoubtedly been time enough to conclude there are some mysteries that don’t have a solution small enough for the mind of man to conceive.

Scarred

“Strength of character is not always about how much you can handle before you break, it’s also about how much you can handle after you’ve broken.”
— Nikhil Saluja

This sun-baked cherub sits on a small bench next to an infant grave. Though recognizable, its character has been forever changed and scarred by wounds that time cannot heal but only deepen. I realized it is an illustration of the hearts of those who placed it here.

The photo was initially processed in Lightroom 5, then Perfect Effects — a component of onOne Software’s Perfect Photo Suite 8 — was used to add a surface texture and alter the overall tone of the image.

Do Angels Daydream?

“Nothing makes time pass or shortens the way like a thought that absorbs in itself all the faculties of the one who is thinking. External existence is then like a sleep of which this thought is the dream. Under its influence, time has no more measure, space has no more distance.”
― Alexandre Dumas, The Three Musketeers

I didn’t care for this photo at all initially, but after just a few minutes of twerking with it (unfortunately, Miley Cyrus was playing on iTunes Radio as I worked in OnOne’s Perfect Photo Suite 8), I ended up quite pleased. I hope you enjoy.

Blue Angel

[for James]

“It happens like this:

One day you meet someone and for some inexplicable reason, you feel more connected to this stranger than anyone else–closer to them than your closest family. Perhaps this person carries within them an angel–one sent to you for some higher purpose; to teach you an important lesson or to keep you safe during a perilous time. What you must do is trust in them–even if they come hand in hand with pain or suffering–the reason for their presence will become clear in due time.

Though here is a word of warning–you may grow to love this person but remember they are not yours to keep. Their purpose isn’t to save you but to show you how to save yourself. And once this is fulfilled; the halo lifts and the angel leaves their body as the person exits your life. They will be a stranger to you once more.”

Angel Descending

And he saith unto him, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.”
— John 1:51

Today’s image is one I had fun a lot of fun with. It seemed as though she took control when her descent landed her in the Adobe® Lightroom™ “Develop” module. 🙂
