Block of Ages

“That block has always been there and always will be, and my chance of getting, or achieving, anything that I long for will always be gravely reduced by the interminable existence of that block.”
–Tennessee Williams

Another image captured during my photo-walk around downtown Kissimmee the other day. These old glass blocks and the long-unoccupied tenant space behind them present both a reminder of the past and questions about the future.

A Reflection of the Sun

“I will be the gladdest thing under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers and not pick one.”

― Edna St. Vincent Millay

This image originated with a photo of a plastic sunflower garden decoration. I’m not sure it really classifies as abstract now, though; maybe surrealism is more apt? Perhaps the art-schooled will shine some light on that for me.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look.

Note: I had an error in the WordPress app when I first submitted this post that resulted in it going up incomplete and possibly sending out a bad link to email subscribers. Sorry about that!

Day of Rest

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”
— John Lubbock

Firestorm

“We all live in a house on fire, no fire department to call; no way out, just the upstairs window to look out of while the fire burns the house down with us trapped, locked in it.”
― Tennessee Williams, The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore

I had a pretty abstract day; hoping you might enjoy an abstract photo.

The Corruption of Beauty

“The first sign of corruption in a society that is still alive is that the end justifies the means.”
— Georges Bernanos

Seeing that my Gun Control? post went over like a fart in church, today’s photo is an attempt at some abstract redemption. This is one of those rare photos where a title and complete concept for how I would process it came together instantly and spontaneously on first view of the RAW image file. I love that.

James bought this orchid last summer when the cancer was briefly in remission. As it is now in bloom for the first time since its purchase, I thought it was a good subject for a Valentine’s Day photo. I wish he could have seen it bloom.

Uncapped in Red Square

“I was born and I live in a small village, where the centre of life is the square, and the small bar/cafe.”
— Diego Della Valle

Today’s photo is a bit of a diversion for me, being a heavy application of textures and filters during processing in an attempt to create an abstract piece that’s a bit more “artsy”. What do you think?

Light Feathers

I’m continuing today’s earlier pondering of those large and wonderful Florida Sandhill cranes. I would urge you to click on the photo to view it at a larger size – it really does look better. I like the way the slow shutter speed added flow, texture and motion to their bodies and wings. The B&W conversion came about because I wanted them to really stand out from their surroundings and exploit the contrast of light and dark.

Tomorrow, I’ll be starting a week of daily posts dedicated to my favorite four-legged friends. If you’re a fan of cats, you’ll want to come back.
