Walking To A New Life

“Today a bride,
Tomorrow a wife,
Forever your little girl.”
— Unknown

Today’s photo is another from the wedding I photographed last month. It’s an example of a “happy disappointment”; it wasn’t the shot I was going for — I had hoped to catch the bride and her father looking straight ahead. But that didn’t happen while they were within the area I wanted them placed in the composition. I took the shot anyway and I’m glad I did. I hope you like it, too.

Soothing Shadows

I captured this photo at the same time I got the one used in my post on August 18th. The onset of the rising sun is more pronounced here, as are the hues and tones I exploited in post production. I hope you enjoy these soothing shadows.

A Doorway in Time

“One day we awaken and this was the dream, and everything that we have lost in this dream will be restored. This is what I hear in my own dreams. But then I awaken to the days of our loss and the nights of our regrets: having nothing to repent, nothing to look forward to.”
— Carl Minie

Clarity

“Be obscure clearly.”
— Elwyn Brooks “E.B.” White

Just a few miles from my home is Wat Florida Dhammaram — a Buddhist monastic compound replete with statues and altars and flowers and clouds of sinus-triggering incense. There are several monks who live and work on the premises, too. It’s a very interesting place to visit and photograph, and I found myself there the other night after dinner with friends who were unaware of its existence. I didn’t have my camera at the time, but decided to go back yesterday morning to capture a few shots. I will share a few of those images this week, beginning with this one, which is a view of the 22-foot tall Buddhalila (Walking Buddha) statue on the southeast end of the property.

A Red Remembrance

“Love for the beauty of the soul.
I shall love you always.
When the flower of life has gone,
ever I shall find you.
When all is lost and winter comes,
I shall be your spring time.
And memory fades and wilts then,
I shall always find you….
I shall always find you….”
― Laurel A. Rockefeller,
The Ghosts of the Past

The bromeliads by my front porch are in bloom and they remind me of my grandmother. She would always get so excited when they bloomed; she loved the big red cones of color this particular species puts out. They last only a few days in the Florida heat, but I enjoy every minute they make the path to my door a little brighter. I hope you like the photo.

Celebration: Lines, Shapes and Shadows

“The present changes the past. Looking back you do not find what you left behind.”
― Kiran Desai,
The Inheritance of Loss

Presenting two more photos from my photo-walk in Celebration Town Center, both taken at the AMC Celebration 2 theatre building — closed since 2010. The sun was out and quite bright, but the storm coming in created the perfect opportunity to capture some interesting shadows and dramatic clouds. My next post will feature the final image from that day. Like the photo of the theatre’s twin spires here, it also has great clouds. So please come back! I hope you enjoy the photos.

Parallel Textures

“All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.”
