Evolving Doors

“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.”
—Helen Keller

Most of my readers are probably already familiar with the famous words of Helen Keller quoted above. It is my assertion that her statement is but a half-truth, omitting even a mention of the doors of sadness that line the corridors of our lives and behave in like manner. If it were not for sadness, I could not know happiness; if it were not for happiness, I could not know I was sad.

  1. I’ve heard of Helen Keller’s quote, but I like how you added the second half truth 🙂
I think this image is perfect in b&w – I have mixed emotions: do I want to open the door and see what’s inside, or, am I fearing the unknown and therefore prefer to leave it closed…?

    1. Converting this image to black-and-white was actually a last-minute decision, Takami. The black-and-white allowed me to convey a mood that wasn’t present in the color image. It was a mood I liked, so I went with it. 🙂
Thank you for your comment and encouragement.

I’ve discovered that I really enjoy b&w images, and it’s one of my goals to explore and play around more with this during the year.
        Good night from Tokyo! 🙂
